MIDDLETOWN POLICE BENEFIT ASSOCIATION PIPES & DRUMS

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Henry “Hank” F.M. Schaeffer. Known affectionately as Hank by his family, friends, and fellow musicians, he grew up in Norwich and discovered his passion for music while attending Norwich Free Academy. That passion would go on to shape the course of his life, as he became a cherished figure in the local music scene. Hank’s musical legacy spans decades and genres, having performed with iconic local bands such as The Rainbows, The Graduates, and several country groups including Al Barlow’s Countryside Band and the Tommy Cox Band. Most recently, he brought joy to audiences while drumming for Tish Rabe & Friends and served with dedication and pride as Drum Sergeant in our band.
Hank was more than a musician—he was a leader, mentor, and true friend. As an instructor and Drum Sergeant within our band for over a decade, he brought heart, humor, and unwavering commitment to every rehearsal, parade, and performance. His rhythm may now be silent, but the beat he instilled in us carries on. Hank’s presence in our band was a gift, and his absence will be deeply felt. Services will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home in Colchester, CT, with calling hours from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a chapel service. Per the families request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to support Colchester’s music programs or the Middletown PBA Pipes & Drums at www.mpbabagpipe.com/donate. Rest easy, Hank—your music lives on in all of us.
